Health & Ethics

What health testing do Australian Labradoodles need?

Australian Labradoodles require comprehensive health testing to ensure long term genetic soundness and overall wellbeing. This includes testing for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and DNA screening for inherited diseases common in the breed. As a responsible breeding program we use these results to protect future generations and produce healthy, stable puppies.

What genetic testing do labradoodles need?

Loving Labradoodles performs DNA testing to screen for inherited diseases and protect long term health. This typically includes testing for conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy, degenerative myelopathy, exercise induced collapse, and von Willebrand’s disease, along with breed specific genetic panels to ensure safe pairings and healthy puppies.

How do we ensure healthy puppies?

At Loving Labradoodles, we ensure healthy puppies through intentional breeding, advanced health testing, and early, hands on care. We carefully select fully health tested parent dogs, make thoughtful pairing decisions, and support each puppy with proper prenatal care, nutrition, early socialization, and veterinary oversight to promote lifelong health and stability.

What happens if a health issue is discovered after I bring my puppy home?

If a covered genetic health issue arises within the terms of our two year guarantee, we work directly with the family and their veterinarian to address it according to the contract. Transparency and support do not end at pickup. We stay involved and take health concerns seriously throughout your dog’s life, not just during the guarantee period.

We are certified members of both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA) and the Worldwide Australian Labradoodle Association (WALA), which means our breeding practices, health testing, and pedigrees are independently verified. How much does an Australian Labradoodle puppy cost in the Bay Area?

At Loving Labradoodles, our pricing reflects our commitment to producing healthy, well-tempered puppies. Visit our Pricing & Information page for current details.

What is the difference between an Australian Labradoodle and a regular Labradoodle?

A regular Labradoodle is typically a first-generation cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. An Australian Labradoodle is a multigenerational breed developed with a specific breed standard, incorporating Poodle, Labrador, and Cocker Spaniel lines. Australian Labradoodles are bred for consistent temperament, coat type, and health across generations  making them more predictable and reliable for families, allergy sufferers, and therapy work than a standard Labradoodle cross.

Are Australian Labradoodles good therapy or emotional support dogs?

Yes. Australian Labradoodles are one of the most commonly chosen breeds for therapy and emotional support roles. Their gentle, intuitive, and people-focused temperament makes them naturally attuned to human emotions. They are calm enough to provide comfort yet engaged enough to be active companions. At Loving Labradoodles, we temperament test every puppy at 49–52 days of age, which helps us identify which puppies are best suited for therapy or emotional support placements.

How do I get on the waitlist for an Australian Labradoodle puppy from Loving Labradoodles?

After Go-Home Support

Who do I contact for support after my puppy comes home?

We are here for the lifetime of your dog. Reach out anytime by phone, text, or email for questions about temperament, early development, coat genetics, or anything rooted in who your puppy was before they came home. If you are ever unsure who to call, start with us and we will always point you in the right direction.

Should I contact the breeder or my vet for health concerns?

Your veterinarian handles all physical and medical concerns, including symptoms, injuries, vaccines, and ongoing checkups. Every puppy leaves us with a clean bill of health and a two year health guarantee, but your vet is the one who will know your dog’s body over a lifetime, so building that relationship early matters.

Who should I contact for training and behavior questions?

Behavior questions belong with a trainer. We begin foundational work from birth using the Empowered Breeder Curriculum, but training continues for life in your home with your family. Biting, leash manners, reactivity, and resource guarding are all trainer territory. We recommend Baxter and Bella, and our families receive a discount with code LOVING25.

How often does my Australian Labradoodle need professional grooming?

Coat care belongs with a professional groomer. The Australian Labradoodle coat needs grooming every six to eight weeks, paired with regular brushing at home, to stay healthy and mat free. This is not optional for the breed.
